The stage is set again for the first playoff of the NASCAR 2024 season at Atlanta Motor Speedway after 26 races. Here we will cover the purse and prize money for the NASCAR Cup Series along with the Xfinity Series.
The Track and the Drivers
Divided into three stages, the quad-oval will decide the fate of the drivers vying to get into the round of 12. The ordeal will take place on a 1.540 mile long track over the course of a total of 260 laps amounting to 400.4 miles. So fans are in for a treat as the drivers shift their gears into battle mode.
We have William Byron as seed #4 on the list of top 16 drivers who will be looking to retain his title as he won the race of 2023. With 2 wins along with 2 top five finishes and 3 top ten finishes. During the last 10 races he had an average finish of 17.7 with a driver rating of 80.6, he is looking great for the winner spot.
The #1 seed Kyle Larson is the favorite of the upcoming race. Even though he hasn’t had any wins in the last 13 races he has 2 top five finishes along with 4 top ten finishes. With a driver rating of 87.4 he is a tough contender for the title.
Then we have the #2 seed Christopher Bell and trailing closely behind is #3 Tyler Reddick. Both the drivers have similar states as both had single top five finishes with 2 top ten finishes while only participating in 8 races.
Shane van Gisbergen who is a bigshot in the Xfinity Series will take to the road for seventh time in 2024 with Kaulig Racing. Then we have B.J. McLeod in #78, driving for Fast Motorsports.
Prize Money & Distribution
The payout will be shared among all the competing drivers that have qualified for the Cup Series. A total of $7,801,384 prize money has been decided for the 2024 Cup Series. Previously in 2023 the value of the purse was $7,449,067. So we can notice an almost $400,000 increase in the prize money.Â
Besides that the Xfinity Series will reward a total of $1,480,058. But in 2023 the prize money for the Xfinity Series was $1,654,863. So it’s a considerable downgrade amounting to nearly $200,000 less than the previous year.Â
Winner from the Cup Series is most likely to receive $780,000 which is 10% of the total prize money. Then the runner up can expect to receive $500,000 while the third place holder can expect around $250,000. After that the rest of the purse will find its way to the rest of the drivers where they will receive the money for their placement and performance on the track.
