Rafael Nadal Will Not Take Part in the Upcoming Laver Cup

The organizing committee confirmed by a statement released on Thursday that Rafael Nadal had withdrawn himself from participating in the Laver Cup that would take place in Berlin next week.

As usual it will be Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe that will lead the two six players team just as was the case in the previous six events. The Laver Cup will see a European team battling against a world team.

Previously Nadal took himself out of the US Open in August as he believed he was not in top shape for the performance he hoped to deliver.

The 22 time Grand Slam winner stated that – “I’m really disappointed to share that I won’t be able to compete at the Laver Cup in Berlin next week.”

Due to his hip injury Nadal could not compete during the 2023 season, participating in only one of the last seven Grand Slams. He was eliminated during the first round of the current season’s French Open.

It hasn’t been announced yet who will replace Nadal for the competition that will take place from September 20th until 22th. But they are thought to be players including Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev.

Nadal expressed his sorrow for not being able to compete with his teammate Bjorn as this was Bjorn’s last year as captain. Then he wished the European team goodluck by stating-  “I wish Team Europe the very best of luck and will be cheering them on from afar.”

Nadal’s next event is to take place in Saudi Arabia namely the Six Kings Slam during the month of October. We hope that Nadal can return to the court in good shape.
